This has been noted by Verizon and should be resolved soon hopefully but this method should work for now. You should be able to login with this method.Select drop menu on left and select Community Member Profile.This should only happen when the phone is brought up to your head. The proximity sensor is supposed to make the screen go black an inactive so when you place the phone to your ear, your face doesnt trigger the screen.

Now as for the forum logon issues, the site has a issue and the full version of the web page seems to be the only workable way to logon because the logon info needs to be set to the forum login because the default is to log into the MyVerizon account vs the forum. I have downloaded the Heos app but when I select 'Setup Now' it instructs me to press the 'Connect' button on the back of the device. The app will let you control all aspects of the droid and hear sounds the droid makes. Rather, you will need to download the BB-8 App Enabled Droid Powered by Sphero from either the Apple or Android app store. 
I believed that the error 304 is a data connection error and if you received "services are temporarily unavailable" this kind of verify this as the situation, have you contacted CS to have them see if the account was provisioned correctly to allow access to MyVerizon from mobile device? Currently the error says "services are temporaryily unavailable. You won't be able to continue with the setup process until the Software Update is completed. I even changed my username and password on my verizon on computer. A whole bunch of my apps that were installed, were 'no longer available' when I clicked the icon (which changed to the green and white android standard app logo). I shall mention here, because I won’t be returning to this, that the HEOS app presents quite usable access to the contents of a plugged-in USB drive. All my contacts were gone and my sounds set them selves to other ones.
B33, I have tried that numerous time as well as cleared data and stop app on sso engine and nfl mobile. Apps constantly crashing and making it impossible to use the phone.
